RECAP The King: Eternal Monarch Episode 6

King Gon Protects His Kingdom Corea

King Gon and Jung Tae-eul unexpectedly met Prime Minister Koo in the center of Seoul. Jung Ta-eul didn't mention her name but introduced herself as a traveler in the Kingdom. The two left, making Koo unhappy to see him happy with another woman.

The Kingdom of Corea
While traveling on his private plane, King Gon and Tae-eul communicated by using their hands, which shocked Secretary Mo and Captain Jo. When they reached the palace, King Gon prepared dinner for Tae-eul. She went around Seoul with less money and ate a sandwich the whole day. Tae-eul realized how King Gon's life growing up and admired him for being honest in what he did. At the dinner table, King Gon showed Tae-eul her ID and praised his cooked food for her, albeit casually.

Captain Jo gave Tae-eul's fingerprint to the forensic team, hoping to get any clue. He received a call from NSC about an emergency meeting and informed King Gon right away.

In her deep thoughts about King Gon, Prime Minister Koo received a call regarding Japan's ships about to enter Corea's sea jurisdiction. She called for an urgent meeting with the National Security Council. Japan tried to penetrate Corea's territory without permission for the third time. She was convinced that negotiations from the previous attempts were enough, and this time, they need to make a bigger stand. She then asked King Gon for his decision.

King Gon sorted to protect and stand firm in handling Japan's move through war. For the past 25 years, this is the first time that King Gon wears the naval suit and he advised Tae-eul that he wouldn't be able to send her off. He gave her the ID and asked her to wait for him. Tae-eul felt sad and bade him farewell as she headed back to her world.

The Republic of Korea
Detective Tae-eul hugged her father after arriving home. To keep herself occupied, she kept herself busy solving cases and capturing criminals with her team. But she still waits to meet the king and wishes to know what happened in his world.

The Kingdom of Corea
King Gon is determined to protect his country. He set foot on naval ships as the Commander-in-Chief of Corea. By raising the King's flag is the sign that the King is on board and manages the command. King Gon made the soldiers ready for advanced action.

The Japanese ship continued to move forward and already entered the territory of Corea. They were within view in King Gon's direction. Captain Jo worried about the King's presence and safety, but he advised them to focus on protecting the country instead of him.

King Gon commanded Major Choe to be ready for the warning shots. Corea's naval jets and tanker ships moved forward through his command. King Gon proceeded to send out warning shots to Japan's warship. After a few minutes, Japan stopped sailing forth and retreated. King Gon felt relieved as well as the soldiers on board.

Prime Minister Koo sent her recognition to the King's effort and issued a press statement towards Japan.

King Gon and Tae-eul in Danger as Lee Lim Plots Something

Tae-eul bought seeds from the Kingdom of Corea. Although King Gon explained to her that nothing comes alive in the center of the dimension that divides the parallel worlds, but she also sowed seeds in the dimensional land because imaginary flowers may someday sprout. She thought of King Gon and their memories together.

Then, she studied a voice recorded clip, and it shocked her of what she discovered: the mystery of Corea and Prince Buyeong.

The Kingdom of Corea
The staff recovered a hair rubber which belongs to Tae-eul. King Gon received it and felt happy as something is left behind that reminds him of her presence. He kept it and went to sleep.

Lady Noh prepared a good dinner for the King. She tries her best to protect him at all costs. Captain Jo is still working hard to find any data about Tae-eul, but the forensic team found no traces from her fingerprint. Captain Jo showed her picture to one of the gangsters, and they confirmed that Tae-eul's picture is Luna. They described her as good with scamming and illegal transactions with the gang. The police couldn't locate where Luna was hiding. Luna exists in Corea and looks exactly the same as Tae-eul.

Prince Buyeong arrived and King Gon right away met him. His uncle gave him the original death certificate of the fake corpse of Lee Lim. It showed contradicting reports from Lee Lim's original condition. King Gon silently confirmed that the man who wished to kill him is still alive. He was convinced that Lee Lim knows the parallel world and will come for the other half of the

"Manpasikjeok" to complete his evil plans.

The Republic of Korea
A rainy day at the Alley tea shop, Na Ri served tea to Lee Lim, who was looking around the place. He smiled and informed Na Ri that he would frequently visit the place. The tea shop is in front of Tae-eul's house. He plans to know the people who are close to his nephew King Gon. Lee Lim stepped outside the tea shop and met Eun Sup and his kids. Thunder showed off the red-lighted streaks on his face that feared the child.

Later that evening, as Tae-eul parked her car and looked at the tea shop. Her eyes lit up. King Gon was standing there, waiting for her.

Tae-eul stepped out of the car with teary eyes and looked at King Gon. He asked her if she waited for him. She nodded and ran towards him. The two shared a tight embrace as Tae-eul didn't hold back on expressing how much she longed to see him again.

He also allowed her to stay in his private residence, the Gwangyeongjeon. They all get a surprising welcome from Court lady Noh who waited for their arrival at the king's living room.

Lady Noh sent Seung-ah to meet Tae-eul and bring green tea for her to be able to relax. Tae-eul was surprised to see Seung-ah. In Korea, Seung-ah is known as Na Ri, a building owner who operates a tea shop. In the Kingdom of Corea, she works as a PR officer in the palace.

The King will have a full schedule for the following day, but he thinks of ways to be with Tae-eul in order to spend time together. Meanwhile, Captain Jo was alone with Tae-eul in the living room and she suspectingly ask about her background and her intentions. Tae-eul replied that she is more confused than Captain Jo.

They spend a few minutes together as Tae-eul tries to eat her meal. Lady Noh arrived and wished to send Tae-eul to her bedroom. King Gon always agrees and follows Lady Noh's requests.

In her bedroom, Lady Noh advised Tae-eul what to do as she's trying to know about the palace. She reminds Tae-eul to keep everything in secret and not to stay longer, especially that she's beginning to be fond of King Gon. Tae-eul only asked Lady Noh why they all knew about her. Lady Noh shared with her the story of an ID with her name and King Gon kept it since he was a young boy. Lady Noh left Tae-eul in her room feeling down for a moment.
King Gon entered Tae-eul's room through the window. He brought a can of beer to lighten up her mood. King Gon felt happy and showed his romantic feelings to Tae-eul. They talked about her thoughts and his fun memories back in her world.

King Gon then sits beside Tae-eul on the floor and makes himself comfortable as he puts his head on her shoulder. She asked if the King has really not tried to be on any date with a lady until she came.

King Gon then looks at her and kisses her in the lips as he insists that he has done many things, but not the same as with her.

Lee Min Ho Talks About Chemistry With The Horse Maximus + Kim Go Eun Opens Up About Her Role

The lead cast of the hit drama "The King: Eternal Monarch" had an interview with "E-news Exclusive!"

The new fantasy romance drama by SBS network tells the story of two parallel worlds, one universe is a democracy, which is similar to modern-day Korea, and the other universe is a Korean empire ruled by a single monarch. Actor Lee Min Ho portrays the role of Emperor Lee Gon, who is the ruler of the Korean Empire, and actress Kim Go Eun plays the role of detective Jung Tae Eul in modern Korea. Both characters will hand in hand to protect the people they love and close the entry point between two universes.

Both the lead stars appeared on the April 22nd episode of "E-news Exclusive" and shared about their character preparation and their experiences. They were asked what they had leaned for their characters, to which Lee Min Ho replied that he worked hard at his skills in rowing, as well as in horseback riding. He added that portraying an emperor is not something one can prepare for. The MC then humorously asked if he meant that he already acquired an emperor's attitude, and Lee Min Ho responded with a laugh.

There was some footage shared on the show of Lee Min Ho filming while horseback riding. He discussed his screen partner, the beautiful horse named Maximus. The actor shared that he finds Maximus cute, saying that its nose becomes red whenever it feels cold. Also, Maximus enjoys the lemon-flavored candy that he also likes. When they are done with a scene, they would each have a piece of candy.

In another clip, Lee Min Ho seems worried at Maximus, looking a bit restless. He asked the staff if they could let go of Maximus for a bit if they're done filming as it's getting stressed. The actor was later shown telling Maximus, "You have to remember me," while staring into its eyes.

On the other hand, Kim Go Eun was asked about portraying a character of a detective for the first time. She said she felt great to be able to experience putting handcuffs on people. Lee Min Ho was surprised by her reply and both actors just laughed it off.

The actress explained that her previous roles were a person who gets chased, but now, she's the one putting handcuffs on them and smoothly taking them away. Kim Go Eun continued that she has been in some action films before, so she is a bit confident about taking this role too.

The two celebrities were also asked about the job they'd like to do in a parallel world if given a chance to choose.

The actress said she wants to be a doctor. She elaborated that she wanted to be a doctor if her skills were good enough. Lee Min Ho revealed that he wanted to be a balladeer, to which everyone responded with laughter. The actress then came to his defense and said Lee Min Ho has a very nice voice. Then, the interviewer expressed that he can reach for this dream in this universe, too, but the actor replied, "I think that would be difficult to do in this life."

"The King: Eternal Monarch" Criticized For Using Japanese-Style Temple in Opening Credits

Newly-released SBS drama "The King: Eternal Monarch" caught plagiarism controversy for allegedly using a Japanese-style temple in ints opening credits.

The much-anticipated fantasy-romance series, starring Lee Min Ho and Kim Go Eun, premiered last April 17 and attained record-breaking ratings for its timeslot on the network. It has now aired two episodes.

The story of this drama presents two parallel universes: one having a democratic ruling similar to modern-day Korea as we all know it, and the other one is an alternative universe wherein Korea is an empire governed by one ruler, which is a monarch. Lee Min Ho portrays the character of Emperor Lee Gon, and Kim Go Eun is detective Jung Tae Eul. They are set to team up to close the entry point between two worlds and protect the people they love the most.

Despite the evident success, the drama is already under fire for a controversy that flared up online following its first episode. People noticed that the fictional world of the Korean Empire, illustrated in title video for the show, seemed to have used the images of buildings that are quite the same as the Japanese temples.

On April 20, an internet community forum post pinpointed that a particular building that was seen in the opening scene of the drama is quite similar to the Tōdai-ji, which is one of the seven most influential Buddhist temples in Nara. Thus, the series resulted in criticisms from the online community.

Some of the netizens consider it a bit offensive that a Japanese building is being used in a scene that was supposed to represent the Korean Daehan empire. Plus, it was also seen that the Korean royal emblem was covered with CGI-created cherry blossoms, considering that the drama is about two worlds that also and highlights ancient Korean society. Some viewers also noticed the similarities between the Imperial Seal for the fictional Korean Empire and the real Imperial Seal of Japan.

Dismayed viewers commented:
"I know it's a drama or movie, but if you're going to make a work on ancient Korea, shouldn't you do your assignment in historical research to produce this?"

"I'm not going to watch it ever."

"Is that how far your imagination can go..."

"What is this? This isn't even a story about Japanese occupation."

This issue goes beyond the concern of plagiarism since both countries, Korea and Japan, have a long history of historical disputes starting from at least the seventh century. Fast forward to the modern day, there are some sentiments about Korea that are often tied to Japan, such as making the country its imperial colony way back 1910, which sparked up for more issues like Japan's use of Koreans as forced laborers and "comfort women" during the World War II.

The visible depictions of even a fictional Korean history that appear to have been influenced by Japanese tradition has, therefore, become a controversy.

RECAP for The King: Eternal Monarch Episode 2

"The King Eternal Monarch" Episode 2
King Gon Explores The Modern-Day Korea

King Gon embraced Officer Tae-Eul as he had been longing to see her after that painful night in the year 1994. Tae-Eul pushed him and tried to stay focused by interrogating him for any violations. Tae-Eul asked for his ID and his reasons for showing in the middle of the street with a horse. King Gon didn't have any ID with him, and his explanation wasn't enough for Tae-Eul to believe. He was brought to the station for further examination.

The Republic of Korea
At the office, King Gon tried to explain his status but Tae-Eul continued to dismiss his words. She asked all his materials to surrender and check each of the items. King Gon tried to pull away from her arms since no one had ever touched his body. Tae-Eul was strong enough to grab his hands for fingerprints.

The Kingdom of Corea
Court Lady Ok-Nam was worried as King Gon didn't return since they lost his whereabouts. She asked help from Yong In, one of the royal family members, to come up with a plan to keep the king busy. Jo Young, together with his men, searched the forest until night time. They lost King Gon's track in the middle of the bamboo forest and no other leads after that. Jo Young asked to talk with the two prisoners who might have known about "White Rabbit."

Jo Young tried to get more information form the prisoners but they didn't have the full details of the lady. They call her "Luna" who get their money through scams. Jo Young then asked the police to prepare the recording videos around the place.

The Republic of Korea
King Gon, now behind bars, asked for a chair from Tae-Eul. He mentioned that he never tried to sit on the floor. Tae-Eul didn't answer back and continued to work on her desk. Jo Eunsup came in and asked why he kept on calling to the officer. King Gon looked at him and surprised to see a familiar face - it's Jo Young!

Although his hair and dress are different from what he used to in Corea, Eo Eunsup past a document to Tae-Eul informed her that it comes from his department. He took one sachet of juice and made a dance move with it. King Gon dropped his jaw and confirmed that he is not Jo Young. Jo Eunsup possesses good vibes and jokes around in the station. He smiles by showing his teeth and closing his eyes. The forensic team cannot find any records using King Gon's fingertips.

Tae-Eul released King Gon as it will give her more work to do since no records under his name. No place to go, King Gon requested to visit a jewelry shop nearby. Tae-Eul brought him to one of the shops. King Gon took out a piece of his buttons and pawned it for cash. The owner checked the authenticity of the stone and told them it is his first time to see such a rare diamond. He gave the money worth for the stone.

King Gon used the money to rent a big suite room of a hotel. He advised Tae-Eul that he wishes to stay longer in her world to study about parallel universes, though one of his main reasons is he wanted to spend more time with her.

King Gon made 13 attempts until Jo Eunsup picked up his call. He asked him to accompany him to buy clothes. He bought stuff for Eunsup and, at the same time, asked to see his family picture. Looking at the picture, Eunsup and his father looks different than the one Jo Young has back in the kingdom.
The next day, King Gon visited shops around the city. He kept on calling Tae-Eul to describe his experience, but Tae-Eul always ends the call. He loves the bread that tastes like the one he ate for breakfast. He also likes the clothes and bought a lot for him to use.

Meanwhile, Ye Rim enjoys painting the temple with colors that he created. He is thankful to the monk as he got the chance to paint the walls. Ye Rim still holds the power of the "Manpasikjeok." He helps people in suffering and turns their evil wish to reality.

King Gon Offers Tae-Eul To Be His Wife
For the past days, Tae-Eul has been busily investigating a crime, and the whole team still can't find a suspect. She asked Jo Eunsup where King Gon is because he never called her again. Jo Eunsup explained that he stayed in the library the whole time reading books. He studied about Korea and tried to get any similarity with his Kingdom.
Tae-Eul went to the library and asked him out for dinner. She let him taste the flavored fried chicken in one of the shops. King Gon was impressed. He also expressed his feelings about finally finding Tae-Eul after 25 years. He feels that everything has a reason, especially for his choice to stay longer in Korea.

The Kingdom of Corea
Jo Young visited the place the last time King Gon run after the "White Rabbit." He stood for a long time and tried to find answers. He checked photos from people who might give leads and find King Gon.

Court lady Ok-Nam met Jo Young in the palace. Jo Young gave updates on their investigations. The only relevant story he remembered from the King was when he chased a woman in one of the events. Ok-Nam was glad to hear if the King is seeing a woman, but she still wishes to find out if he's doing good. Jo Young assured the court lady he will do his best to find the King.

The Republic of Korea
Seated in the living room and looking at the pile of shopping bags, King Gon covered his eyes in frustration. The suite from Corea doesn't have any buttons on it. He sold all the diamonds and bought a lot of clothes. At the moment, he didn't have money left on hand to buy food. He went to see his white horse Maximus and waited to see Tae-Eul. Her house is across the road, where Maximus stays for the meantime.

He met officer Gang Shin Jae and asked if he has any special relationship with Tae-Eul. Shin Jae looked at him and didn't answer such a question when they only met for the first time. King Gon felt a little jealous of Shin Jae and told him to be nice. He walked away and talked to Tae-Eul over the phone.

Officer Gang Shin Jae knew Tae-Eul back since they were in high school. Tae-Eul's father was a Taekwando teacher. Shin Jae admired Tae-Eul's beauty but he never knew she moves rough and strong as men do. Shin Jae joined and learned Taekwondo. They became good friends since then and even entered the police academy together. Shin Jae heard his officemates talk about how good-looking King Gon is.

Tae-Eul stepped out of her house and saw King Gon, standing across the road. King Gon asked if he can go with her, but she said no and walked away. After a while, Tae-Eul came back and approached King Gon, still standing at the same spot where she left him.

King Gon was happy to see her. He realized the only reason that made him want to stay in the current world is because of her. Then, King Gon offered Officer Jong Tae-Eul to be his wife and queen.

RECAP for The King: Eternal Monarch Episode 1

"The King: Eternal Monarch" Episode 1 Part 1: The Mystic Bamboo Flute

Bamboos are swaying under the sun as Lee Rim (Lee Jung-jin) narrates the story of the ancient Silla dynasty. A mystical myth of a bamboo mystic flute "Manpashikjeok" is under King Sinmun's well-kept treasure in the year 682. The magical possession is a symbol from "Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms."
As he explains the tale, he is seated in a secure room, a table, in front of detective officer Jung Tae-Eul (Kim Go-Eun) and her partner Kang Shi-Jae (Kim Kyung-Nam). Lee Rim's face and his suit satins were covered in blood. Rim testified that his actual age is 70 years old and that his birthdate is 1951. He looks young when he gets hold of the half piece of "Manpashikjeok." He confessed that he killed his half-brother, who was the king during his time.
The questioning between Lee Rim and officer Tae-Eul happened in the year 2020. The detectives were confused about Rim's words when in their data, he died in 1994.

The Kingdom of Corea, 1994
In the Kingdom of Corea, the year 1994, in the winter season, Prince Geum (Lee Rim) invaded the king's palace with his gunned men. He took the ancient "Four Tiger Sword" from its box before heading to the sacred room where King Lee Ho (father of Lee Gon), was standing in front of the "Manpashikjeok" guarded safe glass box. Armed men of Rim shot the guards of the king, overpowering them. Lee Rim reached King Lee Ho and stabbed him with the sword. Rim opened the glass box and took the magic bamboo flute.
Silent steps of small feet covered in blood entered the room. The young boy shouted as he saw his father lying on the floor. Anger led the boy to pick up the sword and hit Lee Rim's hand, which cut the magic flute into two. Lee Rim held the other half tightly while the other one fell to the ground. Rim got mad and strangled the boy with the bamboo flute, and created a wound and bled his skin.

That young boy was Prince Lee Gon (Lee Min Ho).
Amidst the chaos that Lee Rim brought to the king's palace, an armed man entered the room wearing an all-black outfit with a hat and mask on. It was dark, so no one saw his face or identity. He shot each Rim's guard and succeeded in killing most of them. He got near to the Rim when the siren turned on, signaling the outside guards that the palace was under attack.
Rim's assistant insisted that they needed to go to avoid getting caught. Rim tried to look for the other half of the flute but was nowhere to be found. He didn't know that the young prince, who was lying on the floor, reached for the bamboo flute and kept it in his grip.

Rim released the boy when the shooting happened, the fighter who fought with Lee Rim's men saved his life. As Rim fled the place, the fighter went to Prince Lee Gon and checked his pulse. Knowing that the boy is alive, the fighter left the scene as well. The prince, with his other hand, took hold of the ID as his only source of knowing his savior.
The next day, the people of the Kingdom of Corea got news of the king's death. The high court announced Lee Rim as a fugitive and dethroned him. The palace is now making all arrangements for the king's funeral and ceremony for the next heir as king.
Meanwhile, Lee Rim, in his struggle to escape the palace, reached the center of the forest in the middle of the bamboo trees and two tombstones. He hears the music of a bamboo flute and lightning at night. As the high rise stones lit, the magic bamboo flute in his grip transported him to another world.

The Republic of Korea, the present time
In broad daylight, Lee Rim, with his suit full of blood, walked around a new world - the Republic of Korea. He looked around with a puzzled face and tried to recognize the place. He reached a newsstand and read the exact year, the president, and the name of the country. Lee Rim realized he is in a new world and needed to fit in. A restless man bumped and forcibly grabbed Rim's back to face him. Rim recognized his face as his half-brother in the new realm.

Rim entered a dark and filthy room looking at a man sitting in a wheelchair. The sick man is Lee Rim's identity in the new world. He twisted the head of the man and killed him instantly. In this way, Rim will take over the life of the man as his own.
The door opened and a young boy came in. It was Lee Gon's identity in the new world. The boy looked the dead man in the wheelchair and cried. Rim didn't let the chance pass and killed the boy as well. In his mind, the bloodline of the king's family in the new realm is now disposed of. No one will stop him in his future, wicked deed.

King Gon Meets Officer Tae-Eul
The Kingdom of Corea
The ceremony of crowning the heir to the King's throne started. King Lee Gon was wearing the traditional robe and walked the aisle towards the palace with all the high-profile attendees.
Now crowned as the new King, he performed the traditional mourning ceremony for his father. Court lady Ok-Nam supported the young King all throughout. She made special arrangements - a boy younger than him will befriend the young King. Eventually, he became his loyal guard, Jo Yeong (Woo Do Hwan), the son of his late father's good friend as well.

Growing up, young King Gon studied well and became a good leader of his kingdom. He grew up to be a handsome king and very athletic. Jo Yeong remained alongside him and became King Gon's head captain. His only priority in life is to protect the King and to report to court lady Ok-Nam regarding anything about King Gon.

The Kingdom of Corea has a smart and beautiful Prime Minister, Gu Seo-Ryung (Jung Eun-Chae). She manages the government matters and officials of the kingdom. It is also no secret that her eyes are set to conquer the heart of the handsome King. However, what keeps King Gon's mind occupied is to find the fighter who saved his life. The ID that he took from the fighter shows a Seoul Police ID holding the name Ms. Tae-Eul.
King Gon loved the story of the 'White Rabbit With The Clock." He usually reads children's books in one of the schools in the city. Even the children would tease him if he liked anyone to be his girlfriend. He'd laugh at their curiosity. Court lady Ok-Nam insisted that the King should be dating someone and he is in his right age, but King Gon dismissed the thought of it.

He saw a person wearing a black hood that looked like the "white rabbit" in his description. He ran after the person while riding with his white horse. His quest led him to the bamboo forest, and suddenly, he heard the sound of the lightning and the music of the bamboo flute.
King Gon, all this time, has been holding the other half of the magical flute embedded in his small cane. Holding the mystic flute creates a power that lets him access to the different realm.

The Republic of Korea, the present time
King Gon was riding his white horse and soon enough, he landed on the streets of Seoul. The people who saw King Gon were attracted to his handsome face. They thought that he was an actor and filming a movie, with his outfit and the matching horse.
Detective Jung Tae-Eul (Kim Go-Eun) apprehended him for public disturbance. King Gon, however, was amazed by seeing her face. Detective Jung Tae-Eul has the same face on the ID he kept for 25 years. He tried to persuade Tae-Eul but she wasn't easily convinced. He then hugged her tightly. He was happy to see his savior.
