Lee Min Ho featured in Manila Bulletin for the start of his military service in May

Korean Superstar Lee Min Ho’s military service will start next month.

“Lee Min Ho will be a public service worker starting on May 12 at Gangnam District Office,” his agency, MYM Entertainment, said. It added that the 29-year-old actor will have no official schedule until that date and he will enlist quietly.

Korean men who start their military service usually undergo four weeks of basic military training but it’s different in Lee Min Ho’s case.

He will immediately start his duty as public service worker and he will be called later by the Military Manpower Administration (MMA) to undergo the said training within one year.

Lee Min Ho got exempted from serving as an active duty soldier due to severe injuries he and fellow actor Jung Il-woo suffered in a car accident in August 2006.

He was only 19 when the accident happened that resulted in the actor staying in the hospital for seven months due to serious leg injury. He got fractures in his thigh and ankle and his knee cartilage was torn. During the operation, a 46 cm metal implant was put in his thigh.

Based on the medical examination conducted by the military years ago, it was concluded that he would not be able to serve in the active duty regardless of the time of his enlistment.

Lee Min Ho was also injured in another car accident while filming the drama “City Hunter” in 2011.

His last drama project was “The Legend of the Blue Sea” which aired from November 2016 to January this year.
