Interesting Facts About “The King Eternal Monarch” Lead Star Lee Min Ho

If you're a fan of Lee Min Ho, then you must be watching the hit Korean drama "The King: Eternal Monarch" on Netflix. It's the actor's first series after he has successfully completed his military training. 


The drama also marks the reunion of Lee Min Ho and Kim Eun Sook who have worked together in the blockbuster series "The Heirs" which aired in 2013. Eun Sook is well-know screenwriter who is also behind the success of "Descendants of the Sun," "Goblin" and "Mr. Sunshine." That is why everyone has high-expectations with "The King: Eternal Monarch." 

Nevertheless, fans were not disappointed as the new series premiered with sky-high ratings. As the series progresses, allow us to share some interesting facts about the main lead Lee Min Ho which all of you would definitely love to know.

He conquered death twice
In 2006, when Lee Min Ho was only 19 years old, he was involved in a tragic car accident. The actor was on a trip together with his colleague Jung Il-woo and two other acquaintances when a car from the opposite lane crashed head on into their vehicle.

Fortunately, Lee Min Ho and Jung Il-woo survived the crash. Howeve, both actors suffered severe injuries which left Lee Min ho in a coma for a month. He was also admitted in the hospital for nearly a year before fully recovering.

After five years, the actor was in another car accident. During the shooting of City Hunter, when he was on his way home, his car crushed into a truck parking in the roadside. His vehicle was totally wrecked but luckily, Lee Min Ho survived, only sustaining minor injuries. He then resumed filming the series shortly after.

For his mandatory military service, he served as a public service worker
Because of experiencing severe injuries from his accidents, Lee Min Ho was seen to be unfit for combat duties after undergoing a physical examination. The actor was not able to serve as an active soldier on duty and opted to become a public service worker at the Suseo Social Welfare Centre in Gangnam, Seoul. On his last day of service, hundreds of fans showed up carrying balloons and banners as they congralutae the actor for a succesful completion of his military training.

He once had a stage name
When the actor debuted in the industry, his agency thought that carrying his birth name on screen was too ordinary and provided him with a stage name, Lee Min. However, the pronunciation and characters of the name were the same as the Korean word imin or immigration which resulted to poor internet search. After two year, the actor eventually used his real name, Lee Min Ho.

He desired to be a football player
Initially, Lee Min Ho did not even dream of becoming a celebrity. Instead, Lee Min Ho aspired to be a football player when he was younger. During his four years of training in the football field, he had shown great talent for the sport. He even thought of enrolling into a middle school where he could focus and specialize in football.

Unfortunately, his dream of becoming a footballer ended when he broke his arm in a match when he was in the fifth grade.
